THANK YOU for stopping by the blog! I would love to introduce you to my boys' clothing line, Y.F.T. by ammaraza. If you’ve read the About Us section, you’ll note the inspiration comes from my son, Yaqub Franklin Taveras. I wanted him to wear unique outfits for Ramadan and Eid to add to his excitement for these special holidays. Especially since these holidays revolve around many evenings out visiting friends and family! I was looking for styles that would reflect my American-born, Dominican-Puertorican-Guyanese hybrid. To me, the perfect combination was an outfit that is traditional yet contemporary and fun. Tunics and kaftans are great examples of traditional clothing that still feel modern. However, the choices in the local stores were so limited in the style offerings, not to mention the fit and comfort were not great for little boys! And clothing in regular mall stores don't offer a wide variety of special occasion outfits for boys beyond the typical suits.
With these thoughts in mind, I decided to put some newly acquired sewing skills to use and sew a simple kaftan for my then two year old. I liked the idea of transforming some classic shirt elements into a kaftan, so I used a shirting fabric and added a coordinating blue striped collar and cuff. It took several muslin samples to get the fit just right!
Not only did he really love it, so did many others! Over several different outfits, the positive feedback continued to grow and propelled me to explore this avenue of creating clothing for our little men!
So far I've spent a year working on putting our first collection together. This summer 2017 will be the launch of the first collection of a few tunic styles. I hope to continue to grow this into something remarkable through more styles and fun print combinations! Don’t hesitate to contact for more info about Y.F.T.!
